In a conversation about a performance issue, my team member ends up saying “I’ll be careful”… and nothing changes. How do I wrap up?

Let’s practice with a manager scenario:

You are the manager of Gabriel, a project officer. You met with him about three weekly reports he didn’t send, on Fridays the 5th, the 12th, and the 19th: you listened to him, and you told him how much time it cost you. He’s just replied: “OK, I’ll be careful.” You have five minutes left, and nothing has been agreed yet for what comes next. What do you do?

Your answerYou take his “OK” as a commitment: “Great, I’m counting on you.” And you end on a warm note. He’s understood, no need to add more, and you don’t want to end an already painful conversation by making him feel monitored: this is also a way to show trust.

Strongest answerYou sum up what was said, agree with him on what will change (the report every Friday, starting on the 26th), and set a ten-minute check-in in three weeks to talk about it again. Then: “Thank you for hearing me out; I know this wasn’t an easy conversation.” You want to leave with a commitment you can check, not just an intention.

Common trap

“I’ll be careful” commits him to nothing: not what, not when, not how you’ll know. You leave relieved, and Gabriel probably does too, but the report on the 26th may go missing like the others. Before closing the conversation, get him to tell you what will change, when it starts, and the day you’ll check it with him.

Tracking that fits your deployment

The group report is included. On the Afthonios platform, it is laid out to be easy to read. In your LMS, a report is always available, but its level of detail depends on your LMS and the SCORM version chosen (1.2 or 2004): some LMSs do not read all the data. We can help you interpret it.

A closer look at the group report

Optional, quoted on request: the Follow-up and reporting add-on. Depending on the chosen integration, it adds follow-up emails the next day and 30 days later, lets learners share their commitment with their manager, and enriches the group report with this feedback. It is not available with a SCORM package alone.

Before launch, we specify which data is used, who can view the reports, and how long the information is kept.

Support and updates

Support and update terms are specified in your commercial proposal, depending on the plan and deployment option chosen. That way, you know what is included and whom to contact.

Your questions about deployment

Do we need to change platforms to use Afthonios?

No. The training video and the Adaptive module can be integrated into your existing setup, on the agreed terms.

Will our learners need to create a new account?

In your LMS, your learners keep their usual access.

For access to the Afthonios platform, we define the login method with you. If you want to use your organization’s credentials, the feasibility of single sign-on needs to be checked with your technical team.

What do we keep at the end of the contract?

Under a license, access and usage rights end on the agreed end date. Where an outright purchase is planned, the files delivered and the long-term usage rights are specified in the contract.

For use of the hosted service, the terms for retrieving data and closing access are defined before deployment.
