Raising a conflict: Prepare before you speak

AI visual

Most conflicts aren’t between a guilty party and a victim, but between two ways of working that clash.

Deciding to speak up already takes courage, but the main work comes first: exactly what you’ll say, the state of mind you arrive in, and what you’ll do if the conversation isn’t enough. This module takes you through these stages, down to the words to suggest a meeting. You’ll arrive with a way out up your sleeve, whatever happens.

  • two questions to check the other person is ready to face the conflict

Who it’s for

Learning objectives

  2. Acknowledge your emotion, calm down, and imagine the other person’s version in good faith.
  3. Prepare at least three options, with an independent solution to use even if the other person won’t talk.
  4. Use two questions to check the other person is ready, then plan the meeting: time, place, length.
